It’s OK to want to earn more money

Grab a cup of tea, and get cosy, because today, we're diving deep into a topic that's been on my heart – the empowering journey of women wanting more, and let's be specific here, more money, because it’s OK to want to earn more money

It’s OK to want to earn more money

This year I got real about ambition, particularly for women, specifically for me. The conversation circled around the societal expectations that subtly (or not-so-subtly) suggest women should be content, almost complacent, when it comes to their earning potential. This is how I felt. There was a part of me that wanted to earn more money, but I didn’t want to say it out loud in case I was judged as being too much.

My coach, Lisa, gave me a new perspective and said "Hey, it's okay to dream big, and it's absolutely okay to want more financial abundance." With this permission, I found that I was open to the possibility that I could be of service AND earn money. It wasn’t either/or. It took me ages to understand this though and we did a lot of work around my own money stories.

The Wage Gap Chronicles

Ah, the infamous wage gap – the topic that's been making headlines for years. Beyond the statistics and percentages lies a fundamental issue: the undervaluation of women's work. It's not just about getting equal pay for equal work (although that would be great!); it's about acknowledging our worth and having the courage to stand up for it. The work I have done in my own life has made me realise that waiting for permission to earn more is just another way we limit ourselves. It's not about being greedy; it's about recognizing our value and being unapologetic about it.

A quick reminder that when I say our value, I don’t mean our worth. That is innate. Value has nothing to do with what others pay/charge or what we think we deserve. It has everything to do with the impact we have; and the value we provide to our employer/clients.

Financial Independence: More Than Just a Buzzword

Let's talk about financial independence – that magical state where your money works for you, not the other way around. It's beautiful when you realize that earning what you truly deserve opens doors to financial freedom. Whether it's supporting a family, building your empire, or indulging in that dream holiday, having the means to make it happen is downright empowering. And you know what? It's perfectly okay to crave that empowerment.

Financial freedom isn't just about the numbers on a paycheck; it's about the freedom to make choices aligned with our goals and dreams. It's about having the flexibility to invest in our passions, support causes close to our hearts, and live life on our own terms.

Breaking Taboos: Women and Wealth

Now, let's address the elephant in the room – the taboo around women and wealth. Society has woven this narrative that it's somehow unbecoming for a woman to be ambitious about her financial goals. Well, let me tell you, breaking through that stereotype is not only okay but essential.

It's time to challenge the narrative that suggests women should be content with less. We can be both nurturing caregivers and fierce financial warriors. Wanting more money doesn't make you materialistic; it makes you someone who recognises her potential and the impact she can create. Let's say it together: it's OK to want to earn more money.

Dismantling Permission-Seeking Behaviour

We've been conditioned to seek permission in so many aspects of our lives, and our financial well-being shouldn't be an exception. It's time to break free from permission-seeking behaviour and grant ourselves the right to thrive.

So, let's pause for a moment. In your ideal world, what does your financial landscape look like? What dreams could you fulfil with a little extra in your pocket? And most importantly, what's stopping you from going after it?

The Journey to Prosperity: Giving Yourself Permission to Thrive

We've all been in situations where we've hesitated to ask for a raise, negotiate a salary, or pursue that business venture. It's as if we're waiting for someone to give us the green light. But let me tell you something crucial – you are the only one who can give yourself permission to thrive.

You see, giving yourself permission is not just about the numbers; it's about recognising your value and believing in your potential. I've had countless conversations where individuals have sought my opinion on career moves. But what they really need is their own permission.

It's time to believe in yourself and acknowledge that no one – absolutely no one – knows you better than you know yourself. As MJ Fitzpatrick wisely said, "I really had to give myself permission."

What Giving Yourself Permission Looks Like

Permission to live your life is something you have to grant for yourself and guess what? It doesn't have to be a grand gesture. It can look like signing up for that course you've been eyeing for months, taking an extra hour to work on your passion project, or even letting the dishes sit until the end of the day.

Permission can manifest in setting boundaries, declining that tempting job offer because your gut tells you so, making your health a priority over work, allowing yourself to try and fail at something, being okay with where you are in life, asking for more responsibilities because you're ready to be challenged in your job, or hiring that coach that you know will change your life.

The possibilities are as vast as the dreams you hold in your heart.

The Heart of the Matter: You Are Worthy, You Deserve More

Here's the core message, dear reader: wanting more money is not just about the numbers; it's about recognising your value, ensuring financial security, and creating a future where women thrive. Remember, you are worthy, and you deserve more.

Give yourself the permission to reach for the stars – and yes, that includes reaching for the salary you truly deserve.

Cheers to Financial Empowerment!

So, here's to breaking barriers, embracing our value, and unapologetically claiming what's rightfully ours. Wanting more money is not a sign of greed; it's a testament to your ambitions, your goals, and your desire to create positive change.

As we wrap up this journey into the realm of financial empowerment, remember this: You are capable, you are deserving, and you have the power to shape your financial destiny. It's time to stand tall, break free from the chains of societal expectations, and let your ambition soar.
